Lucinda Prior Palmer made a name for herself winning five Badminton Horse Trials, and Olympic medals with her great horses. By the time of this book she is married and changed her surname to Green. Her previous books Up, Up and Away, and Four Square, are under her maiden name. They tell of her rise in eventing and her horses.
Regal Realm was a working horse on a cattle station in Australia with Thoroughbred blood and he was spotted by Lucinda and her husband who asked to buy him but did not want him to travel yet as he was very thin from hard work in the heat. Horses there get dehydrated and lose weight in the summer. Two weeks later her husband came by but the horse was as thin as ever. He had been worked every day because he was too good to leave in the paddock. So they took him right away.
Regal Realm had to learn dressage, cross country jumps and showjumping but he was intelligent and a superb athlete and he carried Lucinda safely. They eventually became regulars on the British three-day event team and won the World Championships.
Lucinda and her husband ran a commercial training yard and she wrote a regular column for Riding Magazine and at one point was a TV commentator for the sport. All her books are very well written and worth reading by anyone who loves horses.
