I must be reading too many romances. I swear I've read this story somewhere else... recently. And not knowing where I read it is really annoying! The other annoying thing is I usually love getting a New Susan Stoker Navy SEAL romance, but... honestly? Well, pardon my French, merde alors.
My other problem is Ms. Caite, smart as a whip and dense as Rocco's pet rock. (Hmm, I had an uncle go like that once...)
Great administrative assistants don't forget things like conversations... heck, she was repeating water cooler "gossip" back to Rocco, nearly verbatim, but she could not remember the French conversations with name of the American guy who would get guns to the 5 foreign bad-guy brothers?
Um... No. Not buying it.
Especially when French was her specialty in the first place... that conversation should have been burned into her brain. She had to concentrate to understand their "thick" local accents because she'd learned "Parisian French" in college, not Egyptian French?? What the...?
I do like that she was not a swimmer and that Rocco, as a SEAL, was teaching her to swim. That should have been a good arc and a bigger part of her story. Maybe it was too much like "Pretty Woman" to explore?
But I was getting real tired of her NOT paying attention to details such as a near miss by a pickup.
If her character was consistent, something as jarring as that close a shave would have had her at least mentioning it to her mother and/or Rocco. A wallflower, fade-in-the-background type like Caite would remember anything that was outside the normal boring parameters of her quiet life.
Then if she mentions it to Rocco, he can still realize later, after the 3rd assassination attempt, that she's not just having a "bad week" and add it all up.

Securing Caite SEAL of Protection Legacy Book 1 edition by Susan Stoker Romance eBooks Reviews
Securing Caite SEAL of Protection, Legacy Book 1 is by Susan Stoker. This is the first of a series of books about a SEAL team and how they find love in the midst of their missions.
Caite McCallan had taken a job in Bahrain so she could save some money and pay off her bills. Like she had heard, the pay was much better overseas than at home. However, the heat and not being able to go out and about with freedom was something she could have done without. Her job wasn’t even that interesting and her boss was terrible. However, she was paying down her credit cards and her student loans were next. Since she was slightly overweight, she had never seen herself as attractive to men so having no social life here in Bahrain wasn’t missed. Today was the start of a conference and she was running late. Instead of taking the stairs as she usually did, she took the elevator. Just as the doors began closing, three gorgeous man stepped in. It was easy to tell they were military. One of them was staring at her.
Rocco couldn’t keep from looking at Caite. He thought she was the most beautiful lady he had seen and he wanted to protect her. He had never felt like this before and thought about checking her out. However, he was here on a mission and he needed time.
Suddenly, the elevator stopped. When it did, Caite sat down to wait it out. That surprised the men; but they sat with her and began sharing their stories. Anything to pass the time. Finally, they got up and within a few minutes, they were out the top of the elevator and out on the second floor. They all walked the stairs to the fourth floor where Caite went to do her job and the men to meet with their commander and find out their mission. Will Rocco meet up with Caite again?
We got to know a few men from this team in Protecting Dakota… now Susan Stoker unleashes them with her new adrenaline pumping - Seal of Protection (Legacy) series. First up is SECURING CAITE - Bk 1. Seals are known for bringing their A game and taking the fight to their enemy… what happens when the tables are turned and our hero Rocco, and his team mates are captured and injured? No matter how impossible the odds - they certainly won’t give up without a fight. Even for the most experienced, rescue comes about in a most unexpected, highly unusual way. Who we meet, who will capture our attention, who saves them, in a place that is highly volatile and dangerous, is the one they never expect - that unassuming, quiet person lady.
Sit back, devour SECURING CAITE, you’ll be swept up into a storm of intrigue, drama, suspense and an attraction that keeps getting interrupted, as Susan Stoker unleashes the men that make up Seals of Protection into the book world. This series is sure to unfold a boatload of drama, trouble and a whole lot of new romance with new heroes out to not only protect the world at all costs but also the ones the come to care about.
Susan Stoker is one of my all time favourite authors in the Military/Romantic Suspense world. No matter what series, she gifts us with… you are always afforded with a reading treat, you are also certain to catch up with those familiar names, you’ve got to know and love previously, always ready to help when called upon.
If you love page-turning, heart pounding, breath-taking words, Susan Stoker, delivers this for her readers. Looking to start a new series… you will not be disappointed starting with SECURING CAITE. There’s even a teasing hint of what’s to come… Are you ready?
