I first read this a few years ago and liked it, but didn't think it was anything much. Then in the last six months or so, I found myself thinking of 'that story where the penniless heroine is secretly a gossip columnist, and she's got to support this brood of younger siblings, and I think they went to a wax museum?...,' only by then, I'd long forgotten the title of the story and who wrote it. After a LONG time searching the archives on my Kindle (attention Amazon: you might get to work developing more functional search and book description features), I finally found this book. Upon a second reading, it was not any more exceptional than it had been the first time, so I'm not sure why the plot outline stuck with me.

Gossip columnist Felicity writes that Lord Ian St.Ivealreadyforgotten has a beautiful mistress, which ticks him off because 1) it isn't true, and 2) it spurs his fiancée to jilt him, and he desperately needs a wife and heir or he will lose his inheritance to a dastardly uncle. He tracks down Felicity, confronts her, but she sticks by her sources. They argue a bunch, say rotten things to each other, building up a predictable head of lust steam all the while. Then Ian decides, since he really does need a wife, it might as well be Felicity. She resists, so he tries various schemes before ultimately seducing her and threatening to expose her penniless state to her creditors in order to manipulate her to the alter. Then he belatedly grows a conscience and wishes he hadn't tricked her, but it's too late: she's in love. Together, they defeat the dastardly uncle and live HAE.

The Dangerous Lord Lord Trilogy Book 3 Sabrina Jeffries 9780380809271 Books Reviews

I loved this book...this is the 3rd book of The Lord Trilogy & Ian has been 1 of my favorite characters....so dark & mysterious...you know there is a great story waiting for him....namely Felicity. I love how strong & determined Felicity is to provide for her brothers after her fathers' death...she's smart & imaginative & Ian is hooked from the first time he meets her. He just doesn't realize it until much farther into the story where Felicity starts to tear down his brick wall...brick by brick until he realizes he has to have her. One of my favorite lines is that men seldom realize they are in love...they just call it lust!
Ian Lennard, Viscount St. Clair, is running out of time; he needs a wife and a male heir soon in order to keep his inheritance. When the current lady he is wooing drops him due to a slanderous write up in The Evening Gazette by Lord X, he goes to the home of Lord X to confront him.. When Ian discovers that Lord X is Miss Felicity Taylor, he demands a retraction or he will expose her as Lord X. Felicity is no shrinking violet though and Ian is very stubborn. Thus begins their sparring. Ian becomes more attracted to Felicity and she to him regardless of their bickering. Then Ian decides that since he has had problems securing a wife and Felicity is to blame for the loss of the last prospective candidate, she will have step up to the bat and marry him. The book is loaded with humor and sensual love scenes as Ian "works on" Felicity to get her to marry him.
I liked the first one in the trilogy (The Pirate Lord) but was disappointed in the second one (The Forbidden Lord) and find this third one similarly disappointing. They all started off well and held my interest. Sabrina Jeffries can certainly write well and her dialog is snappy. But somewhere in the middle the constant bickering between the hero and heroine and the continual introspection that didn't go anywhere bothered me. On the positive side, Jeffries pays careful attention to detail and some of her side characters are heartwarming.

Set in London in 1820, the third in the trilogy tells the story of Ian Lennard, the notorious Viscount St. Clair, who is the best friend of Jordan (hero in The Forbidden Lord). Ian's been on the Continent for years and not even his friends know why he fled England. But he's back and looking for a wife (he was looking in book 2 as well). He needs a wife and an heir to keep his estate because of the terms of his father's will. Meanwhile, Felicity Taylor, a gossip columnist who writes her column under the pen name "Lord X," accuses him of all manner of things that make his prospects for a bride dim. But Ian will have his revenge and begins to stalk her when he discovers she is Lord X. Felicity meanwhile is a poor girl with 4 brothers who is trying to hold things together on a shoestring with the creditors at her heels. In the course of pursuing his revenge, Ian discovers an attraction for the beautiful Felicity and decides to force her to wed him. Of course, there's a nasty uncle lurking in the background and Ian has secrets he won't reveal for fear of losing Felicity.

Ian comes across as a sometimes scheming man, but he can be kind, unselfish, wise in the ways of the world and certainly patient. Felicity, though a kind big sister, is a bit of a harpy at times and her unwillingness to see the obvious truth about Ian wore on me. When she finally decides to trust him and support him, it came across as an abrupt change. I did like the part toward the end when she defended him before the ton.

All in all, it was entertaining though not quite at the 4 or 5 star level for me.
I love books by Sabrina Jeffries and this one did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of my favorite historical romances period; and believe me, I have read many. I won't go into retelling the story here as many reviewers do. You can see other reviews for that. But in this book I enjoyed the bargaining done by the H/H with each other over certain points and the outcome of that. (I don't want to give the story away). There was lots of sexual tension between them and the story was written in typical Sabrina style. The story has all the makings of a great historical romance; story line, sexual tension and romance. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a good romance read that you can't put down; because that is what happened to me. Worth every penny no matter how much you pay for it. Happy romantic reading!
