Despite a few typos which disrupt the flow of the story, "The Rock Star's Daughter" gives an interesting look at a 15-year-old coping with the sudden death of her mother and sudden introduction into her father's world. She learns about the angst of first love, coping with peer pressure and temptations inherent when you travel all summer along with your rock star dad, who is on tour with his band. Add in the fact that the teen has spoken to her dad maybe twice prior to the relocation and now is coping with not just a dad, but a stepmother she only knew about because of the tabloids, a very young sister with enough allergies to have a specialist travel with them, a cute t-shirt seller, the stress of long-distance friendship, old scantily clad groupies and other issues that often accompany the rock star lifestyle, and not enough quiet space to practice her instrument for fall recital at her boarding school and you have a recipe for an interesting coming of age story.
I like that the main character is relatively steadfast, the good girl embarrassed to parade around in a bikini, not into the whole drinking and drugs scene, leery of another band members rowdy daughters. While having seen so much at such a young age — she often took care of her mom, the sometimes small time actress who consumed too much too often, and drowned intoxicated in their pool. She's never had a real kiss and faces all these more "adult" situations with a mostly mature standpoint, but alas is still 15 and in the throws of her first relationship.
By the end of the book, she's figured out the "life" her friend chides her about isn't all it's cracked up to be, and that friendships and families can change and grow, right along with people. She even learns to appreciate her family, disfunction, warts and all.

After the death of her mother, Taylor is whisked away by her father and thrust into the life of rock and roll and being on tour. Traveling, paparazzi and many screaming fans, Taylor is overwhelmed by change and finds herself lost, isolated and lonely. Forced to tag along with the band, Taylor finds herself having difficulty fitting in; with her family, with life and is just trying to find her ground and where she belongs.

I really liked the way this book was written. It was more like.. Taylor telling us her story vs us living it with her. I don't usually care for this type of narration but I thought it worked here. Since the book takes place over the Summer, there were a few "time gaps" that I thought were summarized very well. I never felt like i missed anything nor did I feel like I was getting too much information . I can't say whether or not the "life style" details are true to form but it sounds like she was at least pretty close. With touring, living in the spot light, etc.

While I don't find myself enjoying the "fan and fortune" type novels, I really like this one. Taylor is such a down to earth girl. Smart. Funny. Her upbringing with her mother was pretty lax and it was difficult for her to adjust with both the death of her mother and the life style change. She doesn't really know her Dad, who is a famous rock star in a band- and finds it difficult to spend time with him. He's re-married, has another child and she feels like a burden to him. There isn't anyone there her age- well save for Jake but we'll get there. I love that she was always pretty true to herself. She was put into some pretty difficult situations, which any teen could relate to, but on top of that, she was in the spot light due to her dad. I think after she met Jake, she was so desperate for someone her age to hang out with and he was a BOY, she feel pretty hard and too fast. I liked Jake, he was a sweet guy but there was always that underlining question of "Does he really like her for HER?" Also, his mother was "close" to her Dad and to me, that was just weird. He seemed.. too good to be true. Whether or not I was right or wrong I won't say though ;) She grew a lot throughout the novel and I was so happy when she decided to let it all out.

On top of adjusting to her new life, Taylor discovers things about her Father that a teenager should never know about their parents. It puts her in a difficult situation and I thought she handled it pretty well. It was quite frustrating that everyone just expected her to adjust over night and I was irritated on more than one occasion that no one really listened to her or paid attention. Her life was torn apart and she never had the chance to really deal with her mother's death or grieve. There was a lot she discovered about her mother and her past too. Her relationship with her father. I really felt bad that she had to deal with SO MUCH all at once. Basically, another way her life was changed and ripped to shreds.

My Peeve- For majority of the book, I wasn't a fan of the expectations of Taylor and the poor communication between everyone. Her supposed best friend was a piece of work too.

Overall- I liked it. Not my typical read but good none the less. The Rock Star's Daughter focuses on a girl finding herself. About finding your ground and where you belong. I recommend it.
The Rock Star's Daughter is a book that you will just fall in love with. Fifteen year old Taylor is home for the summer and her mother has just passed away. Taylor is terrified. She learns that her father, famous rock star Chase Atwood, who she doesn't know well, will take her on tour with him this summer. At the beginning, Taylor thought she would be miserable, but not until she meets Jake. Taylor thinks Jake is right for her. He's the same age as her, he knows how she feels, he's cute, and she has a major crush on him. Their mini romance heats up a bit and Taylor thinks of Jake as someone to go to when she wants to escape from her problems, but once given an offer to go to Tokyo with him, Jake changes and Taylor doesn't know what to do. She's now more confused than ever. Should she go with Jake or stay with her father? Will Taylor have a miserable summer or a great one?

There were a lot of characters in this novel. My favorite was Jill, Taylor's step mom & Chase Atwood's wife. At first she came across as some rich woman who wanted nothing to do with Taylor, but as the book progressed she became Taylor's best friend. Jill always looked after Taylor. I also really loved the ending of the book; it was what Taylor really needed. It left you on a good note, but I want to see what happened to Taylor a year later. I hope there's a part 2 or something! I also appreciated the deep conversation Taylor had with her father. He talked about everything from the beginning of his relationship with Dawn (Taylor's mom) and I was very surprised about what he was telling her. Taylor needed that one-on-one conversation with her dad.

This book was so good. It keeps you on the edge. Loved, loved, loved! Definitely 5 stars!
